IPB University (formerly known as Bogor Agricultural Institute) is a public tertiary education institution established on September 1, 1963 in Bogor, West Java Province on the basis of Science and Higher Education Ministerial Decree 92/1963, which the first Indonesian president approved through Presidential Decree 279/1965.

IPB University acquired the status of a state-owned legal entity as per Government Regulation 154/2000. Business Innovation Center, an agency owned and managed by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (now the Ministry of Research and Technology) rated the university first in terms of innovation quantity.

By the middle of 2019, the institution legally changed its name from Bogor Agricultural Institute to IPB University.

Vision and Mission

Its vision is to “become a research-based university that leads in innovation for the sake of national autonomy, and be a techno-socio entrepreneurial university that excels at the global level in agriculture, marine studies, and tropical bioscience”.

Its missions are:

Organizing higher education by strengthening the research foundation of the university to produce superior techno-sociopreneur graduates, who have noble characters based on faith and piety to God, nationalism, professional competence, soft skills, leadership, and global insights, and are trend-setters of innovation and change.

Pioneering superior research in transformative science and technology for the creation of quality and sustainable life, and driving innovation for the people’s economy and the national industry.

Exploring the latest developments in agriculture, marine and tropical biosciences to determine trends of current science at the national and global level.

Improving proactive services that solve community problems while enhancing the role of IPB University in determining the direction of the national policy.

Strengthening the State University management system that will guide the development of modern management systems of higher education in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
